How Does a Furnace Work?

09/28/2022 admin 0 Comments

The heating and cooling portions of your HVAC system should be serviced once per year.

To best care for your HVAC system (and prevent major HVAC repair emergencies), take the time to understand how it all works. Knowing how your furnace and cooling system operates helps homeowners in keeping an eye out for malfunctions.

We know most people don’t understand the ins and outs of their home HVAC repair and systems, so allow us to offer some answers. We promise it’s more exciting than it sounds.

Below is a guide on how your furnace works, which can better prepare you for HVAC maintenance in the future.

How Furnaces Work

There are slight variations in how each furnace operates that depend on the type of heat fuel used. However, the basic physics and mechanisms remain the same throughout.

When the temperature drops, the heating starts. Your furnace pushes the heat to the air, and then your blower distributes the heat throughout the vent systems within your home.

The ducts within most homes are shared between heating and cooling systems. Assuring the health of your ducts is essential to keeping warm on the occasional winter night and remaining cool during hot summer days.

If you suspect something is wrong, immediately call a professional to inquire about their HVAC services.

Gas Furnaces

Gas furnaces use a series of burners. The burners within a gas furnace heat up and push the gas to the heat exchanger. Your system’s heat exchanger then pushes the warm air through the ducts of the home.

Electric Furnaces

Of the different types of furnaces, electric furnaces are less common, but more and more people are installing them within their homes.

In an electric furnace, an ignition activates the entire process. Heat is passed through a series of coils, and the coils warm up the air.

Once the air is at the temperature noted on the thermostat, the air is then distributed throughout the home.

Do You Need HVAC Repair?

Are you in serious need of heating and air conditioning repair? Do you need to invest in a brand new HVAC installation? Find a professional company you can trust.

Always read the reviews and client testimonials of HVAC companies. Keep an eye out for comments regarding the skill, communication levels, and overall work ethic of the company’s employees.

Once you find a company you like, schedule a home consultation. Ask the technician to look before you agree to an offer.

Remember, you’re always allowed to ask plenty of questions. It’s your home.
